Weather in the Lo Valdes - Baños Morales area is similar to the Central Ski Resorts, but snowfall is magnified by the fact that these mountains are the highest peaks a system has to go over. This means it will snow almost every time it gets cloudy. Any moisture leaves something behind. These are 6000 mt. (20.000 ft.) high mountains!
In order to get and idea, we check various sites, starting with Cerro Arenas, in Mountain-forecast.com
Next, in order to figure where the storm is coming from, it’s good to check predicted snowfall amounts both north and south of our Valley.
North is Portillo, and south is Chapa Verde, a small ski resort near the city of Rancagua, south of Santiago. This indicates the quality of snow. A norther system brings champagne like, cold snow.. A system coming from the south is more unpredictable, but can deliver huge amounts of snow.

In order to get a bigger picture, we go to stormsurfing.com, where we can see the jet stream and what is coming in the next week. This is good if you can pull the trigger and show up for the right conditions.
Maipo is blessed with snow that stays good for days and weeks in the right spots. Knowing where to go pays more than timing the storm. We hope this helps you plan your trip and prepare as your booking gets closer.
